This week: Disco Inferno, New Chart Releases and Urban Playlists Updated
Happy Birthday to the Godfather of Disco
If you’ve been to a wedding, anniversary or birthday party, or an office holiday gathering in the past 40 years, chances are it was at least partially soundtracked by one man: Nile Rodgers.
As one of the pillars of disco, he brought you evergreen dancefloor bangers like Le Freak and Good Times with Chic and We Are Family with Sister Sledge. But even if you weren’t going out nightclubbing in the 1970s, he’s still been there, even if you might not have realised it.
Diana Ross’s Upside Down. David Bowie’s Let’s Dance. Madonna’s Material Girl. Daft Punk’s Get Lucky. Nile Rodgers either wrote or produced (or both) so many crowd-pleasers over the last five decades that you may be surprised to find out your favourite dance tunes came from his imagination.
To celebrate this genius man’s birthday, we’ve collected his greatest hits through the years in our exclusive Nile Rodgers At His Best playlist, and we’ve also curated the standouts of the genre he helped create with our glittering Disco Inferno playlist. Find them both in Top Playlists / Genres / Pop. Ah, freak out!
