This week: What’s the Story 25 Years Later, Looking Back at Oasis and Britpop
Roll With It, Take Your Time
It was 25 years ago when the hallowed Battle of Britpop was fought… and while Oasis’ Roll With It might have lost that battle, they certainly won the war – Wonderwall was released soon after and left everyone else bobbing in their wake.
In the quarter-century (!) since its release, Oasis’ second LP, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, has become the fifth best-selling album in UK history. It spent ten weeks at number one, spawned four huge hit singles, and produced a legion of Stone Island-clad, Adidas Gazelle-wearing, Man City-supporting fans. You know, like mods, but scruffier.
Put on your parkas and press play on our Oasis Classics playlist by heading over to Top Playlists / Genres / Rock. We’ve also put together the tracks that inspired the Gallagher brothers to take over the world in the first place, so be sure to check out Noel & Liam’s Favourite Songs playlist to hear the top tunes that influenced the influencers.
Top of the Britpops
The other contenders left on the field also had a hand in setting the style and sound for the better part of the decade, ruling the airwaves and magazines for most of the ‘90s. Get out your Fred Perry (might be a little snug), pour yourself a pint, lace up your DMs and dance around the front room to our Best of Britpop playlist, also in Top Playlists / Genres / Rock. Sing along with the common people!
