This week: Happy Birthday John Lennon, More Than the Fab Four
Birth of an Icon
Today marks a simultaneously somber and celebratory occasion: it would have been John Lennon’s 80th birthday. He was taken from us far too soon, but his music lives on.
As a member of the Beatles (You knew that, right? Just checking) and one-half (with Paul McCartney) of the most successful songwriting partnership of all time, he’s sold over 600 million records and influenced, well, basically every other band you’ve ever liked.
Life after the Beatles proved to still be fruitful for Lennon creatively, and we look back on his varied solo career with our John Lennon At His Best playlist, which you can find in Top Playlists / Genres / Rock. We can’t think of a better time to have a Bed-In for Peace.
John Lennon and his Beatle buddies weren’t the only people making Liverpool the centre of the music world back then; the city was teeming with other guys and girls making their own skiffle, pop and RnB-influenced rock ‘n’ roll. Mersey Beat: More Than the Fab Four is a playlist capturing the energy of that special time and place in our history, and you can find it under Genres / Rock. Consider it your time machine trip to the Cavern Club.

RIP VAN HALEN AND NASH
Sadly, this week we lost the legendary guitarist and founder of Van Halen as well as Johnny Nash, the inspirational voice behind I Can See Clearly Now. Enjoy the music of both by searching “Van Halen” and “Johnny Nash” with your ROXi controller.
Thanks to a viral TikTok of a smiling man blissfully skateboarding to their tune Dreams, Fleetwood Mac are back in the charts in 2020. Listen to their 50 Years – Don’t Stop greatest hits, currently in the UK Top 20, found in the Charts section on your ROXi
